John Geoghegan

An award winning School Project by Rang a Sé Scoil Mhuire, Moycullen 2014

Who better to tell the story of local Moycullen farmer, Conradh na Gaeilge activist, GAA member and Nationalist John Geoghegan from Uggool, than the children who have already won an award for telling it so well…… Rang a Sé 2014, Scoil Mhuire, Moycullen.

On the 29th May 2014 Minister for Training and Skills, Ciarán Cannon T.D., announced that Scoil Mhuire were provincial winners in the ‘Decade of Centenaries’ All-Island Schools History Competition, for their project on John Geoghegan. The competition invited primary and post primary students from schools across Ireland to examine the impact of a particular event or person from the decade 1912–1922 on their local area.

John Geoghegan would have been proud to think that nearly a century after his untimely death, school children from his parish recognised his being and felt his story warranted telling to the wider globe.
