Moycullen Heritage invite you for a leisurely walk and talk, taking in the natural, built and intangible heritage of Killagoola in Moycullen Village, Co. Galway.

Partial Wheelchair access – The walk along the River Kip and onto the Teampall Éanna site is suitable for all levels but the Teampall Éanna site is not wheelchair accessible.
Car Parking available at An Fuaran in the village centre (approx. 15 min walk from Clydagh Bridge)

Biodiversity & Local History

Local ecologist, Catriona Carlin, will demonstrate the magnificent biodiversity of the area from the Clydagh bridge overlooking the River Kip leading us to the foot of Crú Hill where local historian, Vincent Walsh, will give us a tour and talk at the 5th century church ruins, holy well and bullaun stone of Teampall Éanna.

Walk will also take in the commemoration site of John Geoghegan who was shot during the war of independence, hear about former mill sites and the story of a Killagoola native who left the area in the 1850s and founded a town in Kansas and became the first probate judge of Marshall County.

Guide

Dr. Caitriona Carlin is an ecologist based within the Ryan Institute, and lecturer in Environmental Science,  at NUI Galway.  She directs MSc Sustainable Environments at NUI Galway, and collaborates with UL in running the MSc Sustainable Resource Management Policy and Practice. Within the Community and University Sustainability Partnership (CUSP), she leads the Nature and Ecosystems workpackage, and is on the GreenCampus committee. She loves nature, heritage and landscape and spotting wildlife is one of her passions. She is interested in how and why people connect with nature and how this might motivate them to conserve nature.
