Sin Scéal Eile
The history of Moycullen - in the words and the voices of the people who lived through it - was launched on 2nd May 2017, with the promise of much more to come.
Sin Scéal Eile gives a unique insight into the area and its history and folklore.
It offers a window into the lives of the people, the trades and crafts as well as the social customs of times past, when the parish was a very rural community, with a great dependence on farming activities.
The oral history project was launched at the White Gables in Maigh Cuilinn village by writer and folklorist Pádraic Breathnach before a large attendance from many areas of the parish.
He gave a detailed account of how material was collected and he referred to the considerable importance of having such material. He praised the work of Cumann Staire Mhaigh Cuilinn and Moycullen Active Retirement.
Mary O'Shea delivered great information in relation to the project, while outlining the aims and objectives, in a quickly changing community.
There appears to be much enthusiasm toward the Sin Scéal Eile history project and people can look forward to another fine collection of material through the work of Cumann Staire and Moycullen Active Retirement.
The project will record face-to-face interviews and video recording with willing participants.
All material will be preserved as a permanent public reference resource for use in research, publication, education, lectures, broadcasting and the internet by Maigh Cuilinn ‘Sin Scéal Eile’ Oral History Project Committee and used by them as they best see fit.
Recorded material whether it is audio, video, or photographic and the resulting translations, and/or transcriptions and/or images will not be used for any other purposes without the permission of the interviewee.
We would welcome participation of the people of Moycullen in this project. If interested, please contact us to arrange an interview in your own home or another suitable location.
