BALLYCUIRK EAST- Baile Ui Chuirc

Ballycuirke East (Baile Uí Chuirc Thoir) is a townland in County Galway, Ireland, situated within the civil parish and electoral division of Moycullen. It covers an area of approximately 54.24 hectares (134 acres).The greater portion of this townland consists of a rocky pasture. The remainder of it is cultivated. Moycullen R. C. Chapel and School House near the W. boundary. Ballycurk Village is nearly central. Nothing else remarkable in this townland.

Griffin Valuation

The Griffith’s Valuation indicate that there were two occupants: Michael Lydon and Thomas Walsh.  Together, they collectively held a total of 130 acres.  The annual valuation for the land was £27-10-0, with an additional £3-5-0 for buildings, bringing the total annual valuation of rateable property to £28-15-0. The land belonged to Richard Darcy and Michael Lydon.

Michael at 70 is head of the household. He is a farmer. His wife Catherine,60, assists  with the farming. They have four children Dan, 36,Michael 34, Pat, 32 and Julia 25. They all assist with the farming.
