BOGHILMORE- Buachail Mòr
Boghilmore is an island in the townland of Portdarragh, located within the parish of Moycullen. This area is characterized by its rural setting, with farming as the main occupation of its residents. The name “Boghilmore” suggests a landscape with boggy, wetland areas, which is common in parts of Galway. The presence of bogs is significant both historically and economically, as peat was once widely harvested for fuel.
Griffith’s valuatrion for Boghilmore lists only one tenant, Catherine Mullowney who leased the land from Lord Campbell. This area was 8-0-1 acres, for land 1-0-0 and no buildings. For a total of 1-0-0.
