Moycullen Heritage were delighted last week to welcome American media presenter Christopher Lydon, who was visiting Galway for a screening of Born That Way, a powerful documentary about the life of his brother, Patrick Lydon. Patrick’s extraordinary journey took him from a promising career in rock journalism in the United States to becoming, with his wife Gladys, a trailblazer of the radically inclusive Camphill Movement in Ireland. Together, they helped develop a shared-life community in County Kilkenny, bringing people of diverse needs, abilities, and backgrounds together with dignity and purpose.
Born That Way, created by acclaimed screenwriter, filmmaker, and radio documentary maker Éamon Little — who also visited Moycullen with Christopher — is a deeply moving and inspiring story of inclusion, belonging, and vision.
The Lydon family’s roots in Moycullen run deep. Christopher and Patrick’s grandparents, Patrick Lydon of Loughwell and Bridget Hanley, emigrated from Moycullen to Boston in the late 1880s.
Christopher Lydon is a journalist, author, and broadcaster, and is widely credited with recording the world’s first podcast in July 2003 — a legacy that connects global media innovation back to Moycullen.
